Our commitment to climate protection

Sustainable production as the goal

As a metal-processing industrial company with an international focus, Dr. Hahn is aware of its responsibility for climate protection. We place great importance on innovative, safe and durable products of the highest quality. While doing so, we pay attention to the resource-saving use of materials and continuously improve our processes in order to have as little impact on the climate as possible. We set clear targets and measure progress on the basis of defined key figures. The focus is on the efficient and competitive production of door hinges as well as the consistent implementation of our sustainability strategy at our sites in Mönchengladbach and Erkelenz. Our goal is to develop both sites into role models for the sustainable production of door hinges.

Our sites are supplied with 100% green electricity.
In this way, we are actively contributing to reducing CO2 emissions as well as achieving our goal of climate neutrality.

Dr. Hahn as an employer

We see ourselves as a responsible employer and reliable partner in our region. Our location makes an important contribution to the economic development and revitalisation of the regional environment and our employees work in a modern, safe working environment. Fair wages, comprehensive social benefits and flexible working time models are a matter of course for us. We create conditions that enable personal development and a good work-life balance, and our in-house training centre not only supports our trainees, but also companies in the region in securing skilled workers. In this way, we make targeted investments in the future of the local labour market and promote an open, inclusive corporate culture. The proportion of female employees and employees with an international background is growing continuously – a development that we actively welcome and continue to strengthen.

Energy Scouts

Our apprentices are actively involved in environmental protection by taking part in the “Energy Scouts” competition. This event is organised on an annual basis by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for the Middle Lower Rhine (IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein). In various workshops, the participating apprentices learn the fundamentals regarding the topics of energy, handling measurement technology as well as communication and presentation techniques. With the knowledge acquired, projects are then implemented in their own company. Our junior staff have already successfully developed concepts for saving energy and preserving resources on two occasions. Our apprentices were honoured by the Federal Ministry for the Environment for this outstanding achievement.

CERTIFIED QUALITY

In addition to ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment) certification, Dr. Hahn has been certified to ISO 50001 (energy management) since 2015 and systematically records the energy consumption of all energy sources. Dr. Hahn is thus planning and working towards climate neutrality.

Green IT at Dr. Hahn –

Sustainable digitalisation as a factor for success

Information technology has become an indispensable part of our working world in the course of digital transformation. IT also plays a central role at Dr. Hahn – be it in development, production or daily communication. However, as the performance of our systems increases, so do their energy requirements. We respond to this development with a clear commitment to sustainability.

Our Green IT measures at a glance

To achieve this goal,
we have established numerous measures
in our IT area:

Responsible hardware management

We consider the entire life cycle of our IT systems and rely on a sustainable leasing model with the carbonZER0 programme by CHG-MERIDIAN AG. With the help of the carbonZER0 programme, we counterbalance CO₂ emissions that are generated during manufacture, transport, use and disposal of our IT equipment.

Digital processes instead of paper stacks

We systematically digitalise internal processes - from invoice approval to vacation requests. This not only saves paper, but also speeds up processes and increases transparency.

Sustainable print management

By introducing a “Follow-Me-Printing” system, we reduce unnecessary printouts and significantly cut paper consumption. Our printers are also preset for double-sided printing and meet the highest energy efficiency standards.

Environmentally friendly data centre infrastructure

Our data centre uses efficient air conditioning technology to minimise the energy required to regulate the temperature. We also rely on modular systems that can be scaled flexibly and in line with requirements.

Digital collaboration tools

By increasing the use of digital collaboration tools (e.g. video conferencing, project management platforms), we significantly reduce business trips.

For a responsible digital future

At Dr. Hahn, we are convinced that sustainability and digitalisation belong together.
For us, Green IT is not just an ecological concern, but part of a holistic corporate strategy
that focuses on efficiency, innovation and future security.

Because acting responsibly today lets us shape the future –
for our company, for our employees and for an environment worth living in.
